Beaches Amateur Radio Society Meeting, July 25, 2013
The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Vice president Ed Maxted KI4NMG conducted the meeting.
Nine members were present.
Carol Barsky KA9SOF gave the treasurer report for treasurer Anna Rae Sander KD4CGW. Anna Rae paid the state corporation fee of $61.25, and club checks were ordered at a cost of $20.00. The checking account balance is $353.82, and the savings balance is $5.00.
Carol Barsky read the minutes of the June meeting, and the minutes were approved.
The Lighthouse Day activity has been postponed. BARS president Richard Barsky WA1GZY will announce a new date when a decision has been made.
There was a brief recap of Field Day activities.
Bob Kerr WA8OFU and John Young WA8KNE described a J pole they built and used to work into Canada with 5 watts. John said that his raspberry pi has been on for about two weeks on 40 meters on whisper and 20 meters on whisper, running 4 mw into a dipole. Bob showed a 1-watt multiband transceiver for four bands. John suggested that club members might consider contributing to purchase the 1-watt transceiver kit, help build it, and then rent it out to members. The software is free. The transceiver costs $145 and the case is $20, plus shipping. There would also be the cost of cable and a power supply.
Scott Freudenthal K2LSF gave a report on the triathlon on July 13. He said that there were about 350 to 400 participants, and volunteers included several new hams. A triathlon for children has been scheduled for August 24. He also showed a video from the camera on his quadcopter.
The club will meet for breakfast on August 3 at 8:00 a.m. at the Golden Corral on Beach Boulevard.
