Beaches Amateur Radio Society Meeting, September 26, 2013
The meeting began at 7:05 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. President Richard Barsky WA1GZY conducted the meeting. Eight members were present.
Carol Barsky KA9SOF read the minutes of the August meeting, and the minutes were approved. There was no treasurer report.
There was no old business
Vice president Ed KI4NMG reported that he met with the manager of Pablo Towers on 3rd Street in Jacksonville Beach, and BARS can use the ground floor meeting room. It is free. The October 24, November 21, and December 19 meeting dates have been reserved. BARS members voted to move future meetings to this location.
Rich WA1GZY said that Ham Radio Deluxe issued a new update.
John Young WA8KNE and Bob Kerr WA8OFU attended the Shelby Hamfest. Bob bought a 3 dB SDR receiver and is pleased with its performance.
Scott K2LSF, John WA8KNE, and Rich WA1GZY discussed different wireless access plans for remote access.
Scott K2LSF described Hack RF, an open source that can transmit or receive 30 MHz to 6 GB. He also said that he installed video goggles on his quadcopter.
There was a brief discussion about antenna launchers.
The Range repeaters will not be available the morning of Saturday, September 28.
There will be a QRP meeting in Orange Park on September 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the high school. It meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.
BARS members will meet for breakfast on Saturday, October 5, at 8:00 a.m. at the Golden Corral on Beach Boulevard. The Orlando mini-maker fair will also occur on October 5.
The Melbourne Hamfest takes place on October 12.
Omer KK4QDU reported that he took his HT to Atlanta and talked to members of the club that maintains the Stone Mountain repeater.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
