Meeting minutes May 24, 2012
The meeting began at 7:05 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Club president Billy Davies conducted the meeting.
Anna Rae Sander gave the treasurer’s report. Twenty-four members have paid dues. The current account balance is $421.12. The state has been paid. A motion was made and approved to accept the treasurer’s report.
Carol Barsky gave the secretary’s minutes from the April meeting. A motion was made and approved to accept the secretary’s report.
The repeater trustee is Scott Freudenthal. The repeater PL tone is not yet installed. There is some interference on 145.35 from D Star.
Billy thanked members for sharing interesting QSL cards at the April meeting. He suggested that QSL card sharing could be on the agenda for future April meetings.
ARES is looking for a Field Day coordinator. Billy stated that Scott might be able to coordinate the event. Scott is also the liaison for the BARS field day. Sign up on the ARES web site.
Anna Rae said that the club insurance is due this month. The premium was $51 and is going up another $30. A motion was made and approved to renew the insurance.
Billy said that another group has made arrangements with the library to use the meeting room during June, July, and August. We will need to find another location for those months. After a discussion about alternate sites, it was decided to meet at the Isle of Palms Park on Eunice Road for the June meeting. One of the officers will make arrangements for the club to meet at the library beginning in September.
There was a discussion about attracting new members. A motion was made and approved to provide new hams in the 32250 zip code a free 1-year membership to BARS.
Ed Maxted showed the club a chess piece from the 1897 chess match by transatlantic cable between the London House of Commons and the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.
Billy Davies gave a presentation on open-source software and popular Linux programs for ham radio.
Club members will work on antennas for Field Day after the breakfast the first Saturday in June.
